Born in 1984, Baysan Yüksel graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University’s Sociology Department in 2007 and completed her master’s degree in the Painting Department at Marmara University in 2010. Since 2006, she has participated in exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad and continues her work in her studio in Istanbul.

As an interdisciplinary artist, she questions concepts like routines, beliefs, traditions, and consumer culture. She uses dreams and universal symbols as indicators pointing to the collective unconscious, preferring them as tools of expression. In this context, she defines her work as a form of storytelling. Some of the disciplines she works in includes painting, drawing, collage, three-dimensional objects, artist books, video, installation, and writing. She views any surface—canvas, paper, wall, or found objects—as a medium to convey these stories she collects from her inner self and the outer world.
Her recent works comprise paintings and three-dimensional assemblages reminiscent of dark fairy-tale sequences, heavily featuring snake and octopus symbols as projections of individual and collective confrontations.
